In 1997, he graduated with honors from the Mechanical Faculty of Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway Technical University (KhNAHTU) and began his career in August 1997 as a system programmer at a commercial company. After a short period of work, he entered a postgraduate program and simultaneously worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the Automation Department of KhNAHTU. Since January 2000, he has been an assistant at the Department of Automation.
In 2001, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences on the topic “Spatial and temporal orientation of vehicles in traffic control systems”. In 2005, he was awarded the title of associate professor.
From November 2006 to August 2011, he was a part-time head of the Intellectual Property Sector. In 2018, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences on the topic “Methodological basis for improving the efficiency of automatic control of hydraulic manipulators of construction machines”.
Gurko O.G. is the author and co-author of more than 120 scientific and methodological works, including 4 textbooks, 2 of which are stamped by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 10 patents of Ukraine and 1 copyright certificate, publications in leading international journals. He has participated in and presented at many international conferences, including in Italy, France, Austria, the USA, and Mexico.
He is a permanent member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Advance Robotics & Expert Systems (AIRCC Publishing Corporation, India), Automobile Transport, KhNADU Bulletin, and is an invited reviewer of such leading international scientific journals as Automation in Construction, Measurement, Journal of Sensors, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Opto-Electronics Review, Industrial Robot, as well as many international conferences on automatic control and robotics.
He actively cooperates with the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, is a member of the jury of the second (regional) stage of the All-Ukrainian competition-defense of research works of students - members of the JAS. Under his leadership, students-members of the Junior Academy of Sciences annually win prizes at the regional and all-Ukrainian stages of the competition for the defense of scientific works of the Junior Academy of Sciences, as well as the competitions “Future of Ukraine” and “Young Innovator of Kharkiv Region”.
He has been awarded diplomas and letters of thanks from KhNAUE, Kharkiv Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Motor Transport and Road Workers of Ukraine, Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kharkiv Regional Council of Inventors and Innovators, Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Certificate of Honor from the Executive Committee of the Kharkiv City Council, Certificate of Honor from the Kharkiv Regional Council, Certificate of Honor from the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
