O.V. Krainiuk graduated with honors from V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in 1995. She began her teaching career at the People's Ukrainian Academy, where she worked as an assistant and lecturer until 2006, combining educational and scientific activities. In 2004, she defended her PhD thesis at the Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University, dedicated to safe technologies in road construction using industrial waste, which became the basis for further research in the field of infrastructure project safety and risk management.
From 2006 to 2010, she worked at the Department of Life Safety at the National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine, where she began forming a research direction related to technological disaster prevention and the implementation of digital tools for risk monitoring. Since 2010, she has held the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Metrology and Life Safety at KhNAHU, where she paid significant attention to questions concerning the digitalization of safety processes, the development of intelligent information-measurement technologies, and the study of threats to critical infrastructure facilities.
In 2025, she became the head of the newly created Department of Cybersecurity at KhNAHU, which became a center for modern research and training specialists in the field of information systems and critical infrastructure protection. Under her leadership, the department focuses on integrating advanced digital technologies into safety assurance processes, training a new generation of cyber specialists capable of confronting modern threats, and developing cooperation with international educational and scientific projects.
Olena Volodymyrivna is the author of over 200 scientific and educational-methodical works, in which she examines issues of digital security, risk management, cyber protection, and the use of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies in ensuring the security of critical infrastructure facilities. She actively works with students, involving them in innovative scientific projects in the field of cybersecurity, digital security of production processes, and the practical application of information protection technologies. Many student works prepared under her supervision have won awards and diplomas at all-Ukrainian competitions and olympiads.
In the professional community, Olena Krainiuk is known as an academician of the International Academy of Life Safety and the Academy of Safety and Health Fundamentals, a member of the Union of Life Safety Specialists, and a member of the European Association for Security.
Within the framework of the international grant project "Documenting Ukraine" by the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM, Vienna), Olena Krainiuk successfully implemented the research "Environmental Consequences of Military Operations in Ukraine: The Case of the Kharkiv Region". This project is dedicated to documenting the consequences of the war, including the analysis of soil contamination with heavy metals, landscape changes, and technological risks. In the project, O.V. Krainiuk applied modern digital tools, including artificial intelligence and Python analysis of satellite images, to automate the identification of ecological risk zones. The research results were presented at international and all-Ukrainian conferences, articles were published in Ukraine and abroad (Latvia, Iceland, Germany, Australia), as well as co-authored monographs. The accumulated material will become the basis for further directions in the development of intelligent environmental monitoring systems and decision-making in the safety field.
International activity and continuous professional development occupy a special place in the scientist's professional development. She participated in the project "European experience for enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine" within the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project, underwent training in the "Women in Cyber: Skills in Cyber Protection" program, and successfully mastered the Microsoft international program "Cloud Platforms and AI to Enhance Productivity and Security", implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. Additionally, she obtained three CISCO certificates, confirming deep knowledge in the fields of cybersecurity fundamentals, network technologies, and network protection.
Research interests: Today, Olena Volodymyrivna's research interests cover the study of cybersecurity threats, the development of information systems protection strategies, the analysis of technological disaster risks, the digital transformation of safety processes, and the integration of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies into the protection of Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
O.V. Krainiuk is: An academician of the International Academy of Life Safety; An academician of the Academy of Safety and Health Fundamentals; A member of the Union of Life Safety Specialists; Accepted into the European Association for Security.
Students' scientific-research work: O.V. Krainiuk supervises the scientific-research work of students. Many student works and reports prepared in recent years have received diplomas of various degrees at all-Ukrainian student scientific work competitions and olympiads. For example, in April 2019, in the All-Ukrainian competition on "Occupational Health and Safety", the work of students Danyla Kalchenko and Ivan Miziak on the topic "Improving the working conditions and labor protection of drivers using vehicle stability assessment" was awarded a 1st degree diploma. In 2020, 4 students received awards for participation in the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works on "Occupational Health and Safety".
Under the supervision of O.V. Krainiuk, student Vil Feliksovych Podryhalo participated in the international student work competition "Civil Security" in June 2023 and was awarded a 1st degree diploma for the work "Smart technologies in labor protection: new trends and creative ideas".
Under the supervision of O.V. Krainiuk, student Dana Koval participated in the international student work competition "Civil Security" in June 2025 and was awarded a 2nd degree diploma for the work "Information-measurement technologies for studying noise during the operation of road construction machines".
